MEET THE TEAM

Dr Andy McDonald: Host & Co-Founder

Andy is a dual qualified Physiotherapist / Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Strength & Conditioning Coach who has worked professionally in both Physiotherapy and Strength & Conditioning domains. 

His career experience thus far includes working with athletes both in the team environment and private sector ranging from developing youth and collegiate athletes through to olympic/paralympic and professional levels. Taken together Andy has worked with a diverse range of athletes from over 25 sports competing at a national, international or professional level. 

Most recently Andy worked within tendon consultancy helping to provide a multi-faceted, elite level diagnostic, rehabilitation and performance service to multiple NBA teams. 

Ben Ashworth: Host & Co-Founder

Ben is working as a consultant with teams and individuals to help solve shoulder performance problems. He graduated as a physiotherapist in 1997 with Masters in physiotherapy and strength & conditioning, and has nearly 20 years experience in the daily management of athletes, including 6 years at Arsenal Football Club as 1st team Physiotherapist and now his current role as Director of Performance at Sparta Prague AC. 

Ben’s interest & experience in shoulders developed from his time in professional rugby at London Wasps and was accelerated through his work with the British Judo team in the lead up to London 2012. Ben is currently working towards completion of a PhD in the area of Shoulder performance monitoring at Liverpool Hope University, a centre of excellence for upper limb and shoulder research (focussing on fatigue, return to play markers and neuromuscular profiling for performance).

This work continues from recent publications around the now well established use of force platforms for shoulder strength testing developed at Saracens rugby and currently applied in baseball, tennis, rugby, cricket & collegiate sports.

Alistair McKenzie: Research Unpacked Host

Ally is a qualified Physiotherapist with a background in sport & exercise science. He is currently working in the private sector & in professional sport, whilst studying an MSc in Sport & Exercise Medicine. He works daily with elite and youth athletes providing optimal support for them to thrive with the physical and psychosocial demands of elite sport. He is currently looking to complete research in the neuromuscular adaptations to training in professional football. 

Dylan Carmody: Research Unpacked Host

Dylan is a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy and Strength and Conditioning Coach who has experiences ranging from NCAA Division I Strength & Conditioning Coaching to Remote Athlete Physical Therapy care.

His early career has taken multiple forms as he dedicates himself to both research and clinical practice. Dylan has published work in externally paced resistance training for tendinopathy, and continues to pursue further research opportunities in sports science with a keen interest in force plate profiling.

Currently, Dylan works as a Remote Coach and Consultant, treating athletes from around the world through evidence-based care, as well as providing educational content for industry-leading companies such as ClinicalAthlete, Citizen Athletics, and of course, Inform Performance
